A stranger used pepper spray to try to break up a party at a Burlington home.

According to police reports, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Feb. 10 in the area of Lakeshore Road and Hart Avenue.

The teens were attending a house party when someone entered the home and let loose a blast of the substance.

Pepper spray carries ingredients that can cause a burning sensation in the lungs and is an irritant to the eyes. Though non-lethal, it can temporarily incapacitate a person. It is illegal to possess pepper spray in Canada.

The person responsible was not known to those inside the house at the time.

Police say despite the temporary discomfort, none of the party guests required medical attention.

Police have no suspect information at this time but anyone with information can call 905-825-4747 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through the web at www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca.
