Police allege driver speeding in Oakville with baby sitting on passenger’s lap in vehicle

A vehicle with a baby sitting on a passenger’s lap in the back seat was pulled over and the driver charged for stunt driving and other charges on Monday afternoon (May 1) in Oakville.

Halton Regional Police say the alleged incident happened around 1 p.m. in the afternoon on William Halton Parkway.

Police pulled over a vehicle they say was doing 108 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.

“With a baby sitting on a passenger’s lap in the back seat,” Halton police said in a tweet.

The driver was charged with stunt driving. Their licence has been suspended for 30 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Halton Regional Police told inhalton.com the driver of the vehicle was also issued a Part III summons for Drive while child passenger not properly secured.

In Ontario, all drivers must make sure that children under the age of 16 wear a seatbelt and children under the age of 8 are properly secured in the correct child car seat or booster seat. You can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to secure a child under your care.

Police say the driver will  appear in court to answer to the charges.
