Police arrest man after incident at Oakville GO Station

A 44-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a backpack from a passenger at the Oakville Go Station and then confronted police when they approached him.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning (July 8). Police received a call around 9:45 a.m. that someone had their backpack taken on a train at the GO station, located at 214 Cross Ave.

Police arrived on the scene and when an officer approached the man, who allegedly was carrying a large stick sharpened at the end, he moved toward the office and confronted him.

The man was eventually arrested.

Halton Regional Police have charged 44-year-old Steven Hendsbee, of no fixed address, with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assaulting police with a weapon.

No injuries have been reported.
