A 15-year-old youth was arrested after he allegedly discharged a firework at a police officer Monday night in an Oakville neighbourhood.

Halton Regional Police say they received multiple calls just before 9 p.m. on Victoria Day from the public regarding a large group of young people assembled in the area of Lakeshore Rd. W. and East St. in Bronte.

“It was reported that a number of the youths were discharging fireworks in the air and at each other,” Halton Regional Police Cst. Ryan Anderson told inhalton.com.

Police responded and upon their arrival say they encountered a group of an estimated 200 to 300 youths.

They attempted to disperse the crowd.

“While police were on scene, a 15-year-old youth discharged a firework in the direction of officers,” said Cst. Anderson.

The youth was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. Several other individuals were issued Provincial Offence Notices.

The crowd, says Anderson, was eventually dispersed. No injuries to any involved parties or damage to property was reported.
