Police Cleared in Bizarre Burlington ATV Crash

Provincial police have been cleared by the province’s Special Investigations Unit after a crash between an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and cruiser in Burlington.

It took place the morning of June 25.

Several 911 calls came in about two people riding an ATV on the QEW from Niagara to Burlington.

Officers located the ATV and tried to stop it but  the 35-year-old man operating the ATV refused to and soon after exited the highway.

When the ATV attempted to get back on the highway it collided with an OPP vehicle near the Burlington Lift Bridge along Eastport Dr.

The ATV operator and his 33-year-old female passenger were transported to hospital for treatment.

As neither individual suffered a serious injury in the collision, I have terminated the investigation into this incident,” said SIU director Tony Loparco.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
