A police dog helped to track down a suspect on the run after a foiled burglary attempt at a Burlington home.

As well, once cornered, police say the suspect repeatedly kicked the arresting officer.

Events unfolded on April 28 just after 9 p.m. on Smith Ave.

According to Halton Regional Police, two men used a ladder to climb onto the roof of a home and looked in through a skylight.

The residents of the home spotted the culprits and called police.

The police canine (K9) unit was called out and acting on the descriptions given by the homeowners, one of the suspects was spotted in the area of the nearby YMCA on Drury Lane about 40 minutes later.

According to police, the suspect resisted arrest and kicked at the officer. During the arrest, police took away a screwdriver from the man.

Charged with breaking and entering, assaulting a police officer with intent to resist arrest and possession of a break-in instrument is Ilia Tsiklauri, 36, or Toronto. He was been released under the promise to appear for a court date.

Police are continuing their investigation and are looking for another man in this case.
