High levels of air pollution has spurred a Special Air Quality Statement for Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.

The advisory, issued jointly by Environment Canada and the Province of Ontario, is issued when a high risk Air Quality Health Index value (7-10) is forecast to last for one to two hours.

The statement was issued at noon on Wednesday, May 31, and will likely be lifted later this afternoon.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

If you or someone you care for is experiencing symptoms, consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities until the Special Air Quality Statement is lifted.
