Oakville and Burlington residents who showed up with their cleated velcro shoes in hand quickly realized that feeling in their stomach wasn’t from the spandex.

The doors to their go-to south-end fitness facility were locked — for good, it appears.

Quad Spinning – or Quad West, as the Oakville location is called – is a popular boutique gym on Speers Rd., between Fourth Line and Dorval Dr.

Its doors closed on Sept. 11.

The key issue is the lack of a tenable leasing agreement, staff were told.

“After 12 years out in Oakville we will have to shut our doors,” reads an internal e-mail obtained by inhalton.com.

Members say they were notified of the closure via e-mail and told “passes will be taken into consideration for refund, depending on date of sale. No passes sold before 2015 will be accepted.”

In addition, “our last date for a possible refund” is Dec. 31, 2017, and “no further refunds will be accepted or considered after this date.”

Members say they haven’t received refunds as of Sept. 14.

There’s no explanation or acknowledgement on the corporate website or Facebook page.

The gym’s phone number is out of service and the last classes listed for online registration are from Sept. 11.

The Toronto location at 580 King St. W., known as Quad King, remains open though.

But Quad West’s closure leaves limited options for west end indoor cycling enthusiasts.

Not to worry — we’ve got you.

High-energy coach Joseph Archer leads spin classes at a facility just east of Ninth Line, where instructors are dubbed cycologists.

Your performance is displayed on two screens using the best state-of-the-art technology in the Greater Toronto Area. You can see your power (watts), speed (km/h), cadence, distance, and ranking in the group.

Archer’s classes are excellent for hardcore cyclists and Type A personalities, while those looking for a lighter, more fun ride will love Chris Hardy’s sessions (and her quads will make you want to crank the gear waaaay up and/or inspire you to be a better person).

Management says current Quad West passes will be honoured.

We’ll keep you up to date on any new developments.
