A popular theatre and event space in Hamilton is celebrating its “grand re-re-reopening” this weekend.

The Staircase, located at 27 Dundurn St N, will officially reopen on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. after having been mostly closed since autumn.

It will open with the new hours of 7 p.m. to midnight on Thursday to Sunday.

To celebrate the grand reopening, The Staircase will host a special event on Saturday with food, drinks and live music, including a performance from Hamilton blues musician and singer-songwriter Alfie Smith.

Staff will also be giving tours of the historic building on Saturday.

“We’re a big building with a rich history of arts incubation and that’s not changing,” said The Staircase team on Instagram.

The theatre has persisted even after some major roadblocks over the past few years, including having to shut down in early 2022 as repeated closures and capacity limits during the pandemic took a toll on the business, which had assumed new ownership in the fall of 2020.

Outside of its regular hours, the building will be open to host a variety of different events and can be booked for private events as well.

Residents can reach out to The Staircase to book or learn more about upcoming events held at the theatre.
