Inhalton.com has learned a popular Oakville video games store is closing its doors for good.

Video game lovers will have to find another store to get all their popular games as GameStop, located in the SmartCentres on Oak Walk Dr. close to Trafalgar Rd. and Dundas St. W., will be closing next Saturday (May 18).

It’s one of a series of closures for the Texas-based company which has shut down over 1,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada after losing $94.7 million, according to latest news reports.

More people have been buying video games online.

Earlier this year, the company shut its doors permanently on its store in Mississauga’s South Common Centre (2150 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W.).

Regular customers have been lamenting the loss of another one of their favourite video game stores, expressing their disappointment with posts on Reddit.

“Sad to hear,” wrote one person about the Oakville location closing. “I feel like they will eventually be all gone like Blockbuster with everything moving (to) digital. Anyone else have nostalgia with GameStop/EB games.”

Customers can purchase new and pre-owned video games for X-Box, PlayStation, and Nintendo and also check out the latest in PC games, VR gear, apparel and collectibles.

There will be no out of business sales as inventory at the Oakville store will be moved to other locations.

GameStop does have regular sales currently, including $30 off on select headsets, $50 on select games until May 19, 30 per cent off on Biogenik games and 20 per cent off on all Funko POPS priced $29.99 and over.

Stores hours until the closing remain normal. Store hours are 10 to 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
