While some residents may be finding their grocery store shelves a lot emptier than usual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario government is assuring residents that they can continue their grocery shopping as normal.

Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stated today that Ontario’s food supply and distribution system will continue to operate and respond to the needs of Ontario residents.

“Rest assured, we have plenty of food that will continue to reach grocery stores on a regular basis,” the province said in a recent statement.

“Our food supply chain is one of the strongest in the world and our government remains committed to ensuring Ontarians can access healthy and nutritious Ontario-produced foods.”

Residents are asked to continue practicing normal grocery buying habits during the pandemic and assume that grocery production and supply chain will continue as normal.
