The provincial government is planning to move ahead with some controversial funding cuts next year.

According to a recent CBC article, it is expected that Doug Ford will make the announcement later today (Aug. 19) in Ottawa.

“The Progressive Conservative government tried to force retroactive funding cuts this year, but cancelled them after municipal leaders complained their annual budgets had already passed,” reads the CBC article.

The funding changes are expected to go ahead on Jan. 1, 2020.

So, what exactly will these changes consist of?

According to the CBC article, “The new plan will see all municipalities — including Toronto — pay 30 per cent of the public health-care costs.”

In addition, as of Jan. 1, municipalities will also be required to pay 20 per cent of the cost of creating new child-care spaces – which was previously fully funded by the province.

The CBC article notes that Ford is also expected to announce some changes to land ambulance funding today.
