Ontario, Oakville, Hurricane Beryl, wet, rain, downpour, fields, diamonds, closed

Score one for the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.

All that left over wet stuff from the tropical storm that pounded the Caribbean and the state of Texas arrived Wednesday (July 10) in the form of torrential downpours and that was enough to put a damper on sports activities across fields in Oakville.

“Due to rainfall saturation, our natural grass sports fields and baseball diamonds are closed (Wednesday),” said the Town of Oakville.

While all sports fields and diamonds are off limits all day and night, the good news is that artificial turf fields remain open for permitted users.

Field and diamond bookings for the day will be removed from the users’ permits and a credit will be placed in their account for future use.

The decision, said town officials, was made to protect the standards of the fields.

Updates on fields and diamonds are available here.
