A Burlington woman’s love of crosswords has helped her become $50,000 richer.

Betty Russell, a 73-year-old retired teacher, is celebrating winning the Instant Crossword grand prize.

“I started playing Instant Crossword as a way to pass time during the pandemic because I love doing crosswords in the paper,” Russell told OLG.

“When I uncovered my win, I wanted to scream in the car like the woman on the bus in the commercial, but I was alone,” she added.

Russell said she intends to use the money to pay some bills and spend the rest on her family. “I’ll share some with my husband and think about something to do for my grandkids,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Busy Bee Variety on Plains Road in Burlington.

The OLG Prize Centre in Toronto is now accepting in-person prize claim appointments for winning-ticket holders of $10,000 or more.
