Road in Mississauga makes the top 10 worst list in Ontario

A Mississauga road is making its first appearance on Ontario’s top 10 worst road list.
Hamilton’s Barton Street East was voted the Canadian Automobile Association’s (CAA) Worst Road for 2023 but a Mississauga road also made the list.
After years of construction, Hurontario Street in Mississauga just squeezed in as number 10 on the list.
Construction on the 18-kilometre LRT route along Hurontario Street from south Mississauga to Brampton started in the spring of 2020.
Major work on a new QEW underpass at Hurontario Street made driving even worse.
And traffic jams have become the norm along Hurontario. One driver was stuck in mid-afternoon traffic for 40 minutes from Lakeshore to the QEW in October.

Drivers will have to wait at least another year before the situation gets better. The LRT is slated to be complete in fall 2024.
The CAA has compiled a list of the worst roads since 2003.
“The 2023 CAA Worst Roads campaign provides a valuable snapshot of the roads that the public perceives as pain points,” said Teresa Di Felice, assistant vice president for CAA South Central Ontario.
“For 20 years, this campaign has served as a powerful advocacy tool, initiating dialogues with decision-makers and driving positive change for safer roads across Ontario.”

- Hurontario Street, Mississauga
Three Mississauga roads also make a top five worst list in the region.
Top five worst roads in Durham Region, Halton Region, Peel Region and York Region:

- Winston Churchill Boulevard, Mississauga
- The Collegeway, Mississauga
- Bloor Street East, Oshawa
- Major Mackenzie Drive West, Vaughan
