Scooter was NOT stolen from disabled man; Halton Police issue retraction

The Halton Regional Police Service has issued a correction after issuing a release Thursday (Mar. 5) stating that a disabled man had his scooter stolen at the Real Canadian Superstore at 201 Oak Park Boulevard in Oakville on Feb. 3.
It turns out, the man who had his face plastered all over the internet as a thief was actually there to help repair the scooter.
“The scooter was reported as stolen to the Halton Regional Police Service by the owner on Feb. 10,” said police in a media release.

“Police received information that the man seen in the video stills is an employee of a company specializing in assisting individuals who have accessibility issues and was picking up the scooter to help have it repaired”.
Police originally issued a plea to the public, seeking its assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for the theft of a mobility scooter.
“The scooter belongs to a victim who requires it for transportation due to a physical disability”, said police in their initial release.
All photos of the man who was wrongly accused of theft have been removed from InHalton.com.
