Gunman report locks down Oakville’s Sheridan College before arrest

A large area around Sheridan College in Oakville was swarmed by Halton police this afternoon after reports of a gunman.

According to the Halton police’s Twitter account, there was a “Heavy police presence in a large area surrounding Sheridan College in response to reports of suspect on foot with a firearm.”

Sheridan College went into a lockdown and police advised people to avoid the area.

Only a few minutes later police reported a suspect was in custody and there was no further ongoing threat to public safety, although residents were asked to continue to avoid the area while the investigation was ongoing.

Sheridan College issued a safety update repeating the police information and indicating they had instituted their active assailant procedure.

Halton police said information would be released as warranted.
