A blast of winter is expected to pass through parts of southern Ontario on Thursday (Dec. 23) which is expected to impact travel in Hamilton and Halton Region during the evening commute.

Environment Canada issued a winter weather advisory early Thursday warning residents of Hamilton and Halton that the conditions may impact transportation, particularly through the evening hours.

The system is expected to bring snow accumulations of 2 to 6 cm by the time the snow tapers off overnight.

“Snowfall rates are expected to be at their highest this evening and may cause impacts to the evening commute,” the weather agency said.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
