Stolen vehicle crashes into hydro pole in Cambridge, Oakville youth charged

Waterloo police have charged an Oakville youth in connection with an incident where a vehicle was stolen and the victim dragged for a short distance before the automobile later crashed into a hydro pole.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Monday (June 26) in Cambridge with reports of a vehicle theft in the area of Saginaw Parkway and Townline Rd.

A short investigation determined there had been an altercation in the area. The victim then had his car stolen and was dragged beside the vehicle for a short distance before the suspect fled the area at a high rate of speed.

Waterloo police would find the stolen vehicle a short distance away in the area of Cedarbrook Crt., where they say it had lost control and struck a hydro pole.

The male suspect, who had fled the crash scene, returned to the area and was arrested by police.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

A male youth from Oakville was charged with the following:

  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to remain
  • Fail to comply with release order (two counts)

He was held for a bail hearing. The individuals involved in the incident are believed to be known to one another.
