The key elements of Milton’s new strategic plan were agreed to at this week’s Town council meeting.

The plan will guide council’s decision making over the next four years.

To achieve this, the 2023-2027 strategic themes include:

  • Invest in People
  • Innovate in Technology & Process
  • Quality Facilities & Amenities
  • Connected Transit & Mobility
  • Planned Community Growth

“Aligning staff work to a shared council vision is crucial,” said Andrew Siltala, Milton’s chief administrative officer.

“We are confident this practical vision will help advance our neighbourhoods, surroundings, and economy so Milton continues to develop as a town with an outstanding quality.”

Nearly everything council does over the next four years will have to align with these themes and will lay a foundation for realizing Milton’s strategic vision for 2051.

The long term goal is that in 2051, Milton will be a safe, diverse and welcoming community that respects its natural beauty and heritage, supports a range of neighbourhoods, sustains a strong and balanced economy, and offers outstanding opportunities to live, learn, work and play.

“As a Town, it is important that we have a clear vision of where we need to go,” said Mayor Gord Krantz.

“This Strategic Plan will help council focus on the concrete steps that will move Milton forward during their term.”

Council created the strategic plan after considering feedback from residents, businesses and interested community members on master plans and the citizen engagement survey.

Next steps will involve a period of organizational planning to determine current and future Town projects that align with these themes, in preparation for the budget process.

Communication about the new plan will continue this fall, to ensure residents, businesses and others interested parties understand how it will guide Council and staff work in 2023-2027.
