‘Suspicious fire’ at Oakville restaurant

The Halton Regional Police Service is investigating a “suspicious fire” at an Oakville restaurant.

At around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, police were called to Ben & Florentine Breakfast and Lunch Restaurant on Lakeshore Rd. W after reports of an explosion.

Police said someone entered the closed restaurant through the backdoor.

Multiple fires were set and traces of gasoline were found, according to police. “BLM” was reportedly spray-painted on a wall inside.

Police say the restaurant sustained significant damage as a result of the incident. 

The restaurant was not occupied at the time of the fire.

Police are currently investigating this suspicious fire as an arson/property crime.

According to police, witnesses observed two individuals fleeing the rear of the restaurant on foot, and then leaving the area in a white Ford pickup truck. The truck was last observed travelling westbound on Lakeshore Road. 

Police are appealing to anyone with dashcam video from the area between 9:15 pm and 10:00 pm to come forward.
