An event to raise money to combat homelessness is being held Friday, Feb. 25, in Milton.

The 11th annual Coldest Night of the Year Walk is being organized to raise funds for people in Milton who are experiencing a housing crisis.

Organized by Milton Transitional Housing, a registered charity, the money provides bridge accommodation and supportive counselling.

MTH’s program assists people in overcoming their challenges while they work towards securing independent, stable housing.

So far, nearly 200 people, including 29 teams, have signed up for the two- or five-kilometre walks and are about half way to the $100,000 fundraising goal.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. at Milton Sports Centre, 605 Santa Maria Blvd., and the walking starts at 5 p.m. Rest stops will be along the route that will have snacks available, as well as a light meal at the conclusion.
