Exactly one month ago an article was published on inhalton.com regarding the proposed location of Burlington’s cannabis store.
Burlington city council voted on Jan. 14, 2019 to opt in on having cannabis stores in the city.
Burlington’s decision to opt in means that bricks and mortar stores with an approved license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), will be allowed to sell recreational cannabis in the city as early as April 1, 2019.
In the previous article, it was noted that the AGCO had released the locations of the first 14 proposals for legal retail cannabis stores – Burlington was included on this list.
The proposed location (RELM Cannabis Co.) in Burlington was 4031 Fairview St., Unit 103, at the corner of Walkers Line.

Now, according to a blog post on Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward’s website, the AGCO has authorized this location.
The location is one that Meed Ward sees as suitable.
“As I have said before, this is the kind of location where it is appropriate for accommodating retail cannabis stores in our city,” Meed Ward said in the blog post. “It is more than 150 metres from any school or any of the other locations of particular concern, including parks, pools, arenas, libraries or recreation centres. And it is also along transit routes and near the QEW/Hwy. 403.”
The store, according to the blog post, was issued its retail operator licence on March 13, 2019.
“According to the AGCO, once a retail store authorization has been issued, the licensed operator can finalize their store set-up, including ordering and receiving cannabis products and accessories into their store before opening for business,” notes the blog post.
However, before the store can officially open the AGCO must conduct a final inspection– no sooner than April 1, 2019.
The purpose of this inspection is to ensure that the operator is ready to open and sell cannabis products to the public in accordance with the Cannabis Licence Act, 2018, its regulations and the Registrar’s Standards for Cannabis Retail Stores.
The standards and requirements, according to the blog post, look at the following criteria: store premises, equipment and facilities (such as surveillance and security), the prevention of illegal activities, advertising and promotional activities, training associated with the responsible use and sale of cannabis, protection of assets, compliance with the federal cannabis tracking system, and record-keeping and measures to maintain confidentiality and security of records.
