There may be quite a few locations across the GTA, but don’t let that fool you, each location has some specialty items that the others don’t. While this may be tricky when going from location to location, it does help make each location a little bit unique - and unique is refreshing. The satay got me again here, but it was done very differently than any other satay pho I’ve had. This was one of the most flavourful phos I’ve ever come across and if I’m ever in the area, it’ll be a no-brainer for me to go back and have another. Pineapples in the dish help to offset the nodes of spice, but the heat here is not overwhelming at all. It’s a flavourful heat that blends with the soup perfectly. When you bite into a spring onion, the flavour profile changes yet again. Oakville, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Ever finish your pho and want a little more? It’s a little awkward because then you feel like ordering another one, but then you may just worry that you’re being judged. First off, life is short, eat well. Second, instead of getting a regular sized pho, why not an XL sized one? Their beef rice noodle pho comes in 3 sizes with a choice of 3 different meats. These meat options include rare beef, brisket, stewed tripe, beef tendon, beef balls, and chicken! Now that’s quite a list, but just look at the size of that bowl - all for less than $15.
This little shop on Mainway offers up a variety of high-end European desserts which are simply decadent. From wedding cake to delectable little German treats to Belgian chocolate, items are made from scratch. The shop has been tempting Burlington residents since 1996. There are also pastries (meringue to cranberry concoctions), and biscotti, too. Check it out already but don't blame us for the sugar high.
I popped into this cute boutique on Brant St. out of curiosity and walked out with an appreciation for independent chocolatiers. From citrus flavours to creamy layers and textures, items are sold individually or by boxes of 10, 20, and 40. The top three sellers are: Maple Leaf (marzipan); Envelope (caramel), and Aspen Leaf (vanilla chocolate). I asked about ginger. They had it. So I tried (and fell in love with) the candied Australian ginger. There are also orangettes (candied organic orange rind), and lemonettes (candied organic lemon rind). Yum! The dark versions weren’t overly sweet, which was a complete win. Think of all the antioxidants you'll get to reap as a side benefit! There’s no seating but what’s to stop you from grabbing a bag of goodies then taking a stroll by the water? Drop $10 and pick up an espresso, latte, Belgian hot chocolate, or tea and something to nibble on and marvel at the authenticity of this unique downtown shop.
Everything from the decor to the service to the music and the food is on point at Locanda. The intimate setting makes it a great spot for a dinner date. The Fresh Fettuccini Bolognese made with veal was incredibly satisfying and filling (not to mention great value). A drizzle of their homemade chili oil was the cherry on top. If you prefer something a little less meaty, there are a number of vegetarian and vegan menu items to choose from. Room for dessert? Be sure to try their homemade cheesecake with raspberry sauce!
