Top 5 Hottest Restaurants in Oakville, Burlington, and Milton: August 4 – 10

Here are the 5 hottest restaurants in Halton for the week of August 4 to 10, based on the amount of organic page views and searches these restaurants received on inhalton.com.

5. Easterbrooks Hotdog Stand

Burlington

This Aldershot institution is obviously the champ … you can’t mess with the best. Easterbrooks has an endless stream of loyal customers to remind you of such legen-dairy (you knew it was coming!) status. While you’re waiting for an ice cream cone, look around — the shop’s ceiling and walls are covered in business cards collected over the years. Records, newspaper clippings, and an arcade game will keep you entertained (and thanking Mable Easterbrook for switching over to hot dogs after four years — she opened shop in 1926 as a tea house!). Since 1930, they’ve served more than 1,653 miles of hot dogs and more than 533 tonnes of ice cream. The good stuff - Central Smith Ice Cream - comes from Peterborough. Flavours include Algonquin Canoe, Maple Walnut, Salted Caramel, Black Raspberry Cheesecake, and Tiger Tail. I stepped out of my comfort zone and went with Black Cherry … it was divine. You can choose from waffle cones to sugar cones or sundaes, and if you’re really craving a treat, get a milkshake. They now have malted shakes which taste like Maltesers candy (my sister will love this news!). Keep in mind, it’s debit or cash only.

4. Pho MaMa

Oakville

Ever finish your pho and want a little more? It’s a little awkward because then you feel like ordering another one, but then you may just worry that you’re being judged. First off, life is short, eat well. Second, instead of getting a regular sized pho, why not an XL sized one? Their beef rice noodle pho comes in 3 sizes with a choice of 3 different meats. These meat options include rare beef, brisket, stewed tripe, beef tendon, beef balls, and chicken! Now that’s quite a list, but just look at the size of that bowl - all for less than $15.

3. Mye 1

Oakville - south

As mentioned above, the Mye restaurant brand is the best in Oakville and the original Mye is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Oakville in the Lakeshore and Trafalgar area. It is located in what looks like an old house and they have modernized it by partitioning the dining room off with glass. We had the exact same seven course-tasting menu as we had in Mye 2 with just one difference at the original Mye. There was a crab claw in my sunomono salad, which Mye 2 didn’t have. The location of this Mye restaurant with the combination of the fresh crab claw makes this location just an inch better than Mye 2!

2. Bombay’s Chutney

Burlington

This lovely little sit down really delivers some quality items. Their sizzling plate of tandoori is an absolute winner! Tandoori Chicken is seasoned with Tandoori spices (no surprises there) and is usually cooked in a tandoor oven or on a grill with a fresh squeeze of lime. If you’re a chicken lover that hasn’t tried this version of the bird, I highly recommend you set a note on your calendar; you can thank me later. Along with a good list of Indian dishes, Bombay’s Chutney also has Cheetah beer. What’s so special about that you may ask? Mango. Flavoured. Brew. Enjoy responsibly!

1. Soontorn Bahn Thai

Oakville

If the wide, wooden door and velvet curtains at the entrance don’t get you excited, you will be as soon as you’re seated. Bahn Thai’s modern, sexy vibe is punctuated by hot pink lighting, please-sit-super-close-to-me-so-our-knees-touch seating, and a dimly lit interior featuring circular booths, and benches with triangular pillows for lumbar support. It feels like a mini-vacation of sorts right in Towne Square. But you’re here for the food … the Fried Tofu and Taro were 50 per cent amazing — the taro was incredible but the tofu was a tad underwhelming. So I ate twice as much taro, dipping it in a honey-based sauce topped with peanuts. So, so good. If the name rings a bell, it’s because this long-running Burlington favourite on Fairview has been pleasing diners for 17 years (it’s been a decade in downtown Oakville). Popular appetizers include Thai Spring Rolls, Mango Salad, and Golden Squid (calamari). But if you really want to make the chef happy, order one of the Red Snapper dishes (such as Spicy Fish), which are doused in an outstanding red curry. For dessert, the sticky rice with mango is a no-brainer — it’s downright sinful.
