This is the thickest patty I’ve seen in a minute. Champs has more than 3,000 square-feet to accommodate 200+ people … Go big or go home, right? I’m consistently surprised by the eats at this bowling alley/sports bar/family entertainment complex, where creative pub grub - not alley food - is served. On that note, I was pleased to learn the food is made in-house. I had the Champ Burger, with the aforementioned beef patty, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, diced onions and pickles. It arrived served on a lightly roasted bun … yummers. Now that was a win!
There was quite a selection of phos available here, but the one that stuck out to me was their ox tail pho! It was as delicious as it sounds. I don’t think I have ever come across an oxtail pho in the past, but it’s a neat little option offered by the resto that the explorer in you may want to try. Do keep in mind that oxtail is a different texture than beef or pork so the meat will be a little gamier, but the flavours within the broth compliment it to a tee.
With savoury sauce and cheese, it tastes like the tomatoes used in Lugano’s pies have been simmered for a few hours. The soft crust - a tad too soft for my liking but I was out-voted by dining companions — is utterly foldable and begs to be doubled up and eaten in half the time. Parking was a tad tricky at the south end of Brant but the long-standing (albeit, sketchy looking) affordable no-frills pizza joint is the perfect place for a quick bite followed by a digestive stroll along the waterfront trail.
This tiny takeout shop at Rebecca St. plaza in the Lakeshore Woods area offers a fusion of Thai and Vietnamese recipes, including soup, stir fry, curry, and jasmine rice. Service is swift and the Honey Lemongrass Short Ribs are worth waiting for. They’re served with rice vermicelli noodles doused in a sweet vinaigrette. They’re tangy, meaty, and filling. Yum!
There may be quite a few locations across the GTA, but don’t let that fool you, each location has some specialty items that the others don’t. While this may be tricky when going from location to location, it does help make each location a little bit unique - and unique is refreshing. The satay got me again here, but it was done very differently than any other satay pho I’ve had. This was one of the most flavourful phos I’ve ever come across and if I’m ever in the area, it’ll be a no-brainer for me to go back and have another. Pineapples in the dish help to offset the nodes of spice, but the heat here is not overwhelming at all. It’s a flavourful heat that blends with the soup perfectly. When you bite into a spring onion, the flavour profile changes yet again. Oakville, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
