Delicious bites await at this tiny vegan/gluten-free eatery renowned for its menu. I had the Power Bowl, a nutritious dish made up of organic steamed quinoa, grilled sweet potatoes, black beans, braised kale, avocado, grilled portobello mushroom, brazil nut parmesan, and lemon tahini sauce. It was beyond delicious and full of so many complementary flavours. It was chased with an ice-cold chocolate smoothie comprised of almond milk, raw cacao powder, cacao butter, coconut oil, bananas, dates, cacao nibs, and sea salt. It wasn’t a sweet drink and I loved everything about it. Needless to say, I’ll be returning to the healthiest eatery in Burlington!
It’s a great little hidden gem with fabulous service and a flashy orange door, which is what drew us in. The bistro is known for its salads and crepes - Seafood or Chicken - and so it began … The Greens and Berries Salad is so fresh and light and lovely. It features mixed greens, fresh seasonal berries (I had strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries) with a yummy vinegar-heavy mission fig dressing and roasted pecans. The dish is technically served with blue cheese but staff were happy to sub goat cheese instead. (Mental note to eat here when I’ve got a business meeting booked right before the gym). The Chicken Crepe is also served with goat cheese, plus sauteed spinach and a house-smoked chicken breast in a tangy rose sauce. I’m a fan of crispier crepes but the sauce had me going back for more even though I was stuffed. The fries are amazing! And for dessert - they’re all made in-house, too - get the carrot cake … it has pineapple.
The food offerings here are Oakville-calibre … straight up. This beautiful, historic building used to be home to the Thompson House Hotel back in 1864. La Toscana owner Tony De Gaetano opened up in 1998 and has been serving up a little slice of Italy since, with incredibly fresh seafood, entrees, appetizers, and desserts. La Toscana is well-known for the oyster and martini bar. The atmosphere is equal parts cozy and sophisticated, while the dining experience is pure elegance. Calamari is grilled to perfection, served alongside tomatoes, black olives, garlic, and capers. Arctic char is a great pick from the grill, with lemon, potatoes, and carrots. The Spaghetti Bolognese blends house-made veal and beef sauce. It tastes fantastic, although this pasta isn’t made in-house (but the linguine is). There’s a great selection from Italy on the wine list. And for your post-main indulgence, three desserts are made in-house: tiramisu, creme brulee, and spumone, or espresso-flavoured ice cream drizzled in chocolate sauce. Service is superb — ask about the original door when you go!
This tiny-fine dining restaurant provides an array of gourmet, chef-made menu items (and libations, obviously). The Hand-Made Gnudi is created in-house and stands out as a star dish, featuring lemon-thyme ricotta, roasted pearl onions, mushrooms, and walnut pesto. It’s equal parts light yet addictive. Popular items include the delicious Mushroom Pizza, with buttered leeks and truffle oil, and Braised Beef Yorkies, which is oh-so-comforting on any given day. So’s the cornbread served under the Crab Cakes. And the Chicken Florentine Crepe is something to write home about. Menu changes are kicking in as of spring 2018, so that only means there will be more new dishes to sample!
Ever finish your pho and want a little more? It's a little awkward because then you feel like ordering another one, but then you may just worry that you're being judged. First off, life is short, eat well. Second, instead of getting a regular sized pho, why not an XL sized one? Their beef rice noodle pho comes in 3 sizes with a choice of 3 different meats. These meat options include rare beef, brisket, stewed tripe, beef tendon, beef balls, and chicken! Now that's quite a list, but just look at the size of that bowl - all for less than $15.
