Wings are well done at this popular pub — EddieO’s nailed the delicate balance of a crispy coating with tender meat on the inside. Their wings are as addictive as they come, served with a great Jager BBQ sauce. The pub’s industrial aesthetic, complete with exposed beams, has large, comfy booths which are multi-staggered for optimum privacy (so y’all can lick your fingers in peace!).
This lovely little sit down really delivers some quality items. Their sizzling plate of tandoori is an absolute winner! Tandoori Chicken is seasoned with Tandoori spices (no surprises there) and is usually cooked in a tandoor oven or on a grill with a fresh squeeze of lime. If you’re a chicken lover that hasn’t tried this version of the bird, I highly recommend you set a note on your calendar; you can thank me later. Along with a good list of Indian dishes, Bombay’s Chutney also has Cheetah beer. What’s so special about that you may ask? Mango. Flavoured. Brew. Enjoy responsibly!
Sushi-Ya Japan is a small restaurant serving up big taste in a prime location: downtown Milton. You’ll find it just off of Main St., along Martin. You’ll see men in suits, depending on the time of day, talking business over maki. Or there may be solo diners who need to get their sushi on, solo. Here you’ll find a relaxed spot serving up rolls, teriyaki, noodle dishes, plus Korean specialties (and you may overhear them speaking Korean in the kitchen). Start with miso soup or salad (with miso dressing) and edamame, then fill yourself up on a salmon or tuna combination. It’s equal parts simple and delicious. It’s a perfect place to eat healthy and stay trendy. This is a classic hidden gem. You’re welcome!
The short ribs at Trattoria Timone should be on every meat eater’s bucket list. Seriously … it was an exquisite culinary experience. (Cheers to head chef Michel Fronteddu!) This long-time east-end favourite in the Oakville Entertainment Centrum has undergone renovations. It rocks a nautical theme, and it’s elegant and fun all wrapped in one. We started with the grilled calamari, which was crispy, not greasy, and served atop mixed greens. A great aioli with chives gave it a flavour boost. The gnocchi with veal ragu came in a creamy sauce, and it was phenomenal (the meat was well-done, while crispy asparagus and red peppers added texture to the dish). As for those short ribs … they were oh-so-tender and it was essentially pure carnivore heaven. Ribs were served with sweet potato fries, which I can’t stop raving about, alongside a spicy aioli. Service was outstanding and so was the meal.
The hand-stretched pizza bread is all I need to get by … i’ve got a love jones for savoury snacks and the Zucchini Bruschetta is right up my alley. It has diced yellow and green zucchini, red onion, goat cheese, and fresh basil on a toasted garlic crostini. Yum! Tavolo, known for its perfectly perfect margherita pizza and fried calamari, also has a divine dessert offering: house-made doughnuts. They’re tossed in sugar and served atop Nutella and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. While I’ve never been a doughnut person (except at The Ex each summer, because Tiny Tom Donuts are a national treasure!), these will convert the saltiest salt enthusiast. On the board at Tavolo (it’s the most generous serving we’ve seen in town, by far!) you’ll find prosciutto, culatello, soppressata, mortadella, olives, pickled vegetables, Italian cheese, and … wait for it … savoury donuts.
