Nachos are a popular item at this Kerr Village pub, which opened in October 2011. Like everything on the menu, they’re fantastic. One bite in and you’re toast. Ours came topped with grilled shaved chicken plus pico de gallo, green peppers, black beans (protein is important), melted Monterrey Jack, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese, served with sour cream and salsa. But the best part is at the end: you’ll be stuffed beyond words, then find a tortilla to roll up all the bits and pieces left behind. It’s possibly the definition of brilliant.

The nachos here are Oakville’s worst-kept secret. The pub is old, somewhat uninspiring, and in a plaza which is horrible to park in. But the Fully Loaded Nachos … once they arrive you’ll forget all about your woes behind the wheel. It’s beyond words. The basket is the largest woven object I’ve ever seen served at a bar. The platter is meaty, with diced chicken and steak and peameal bacon galore. Then there’s chili con carne, jalapenos, olives, green onions, and tomatoes and shredded lettuce, plus chili con queso. You can try putting a dent in it but … good luck!

This laid-back pub offers a variety of traditional fare, but the Niblick Nachos should be on everyone’s must-try list. Strips of steak and chicken breast are tender and perfectly seasoned, while fresh tomatoes and lettuce add the perfect accompaniment. Keep in mind, salsa, guacamole, and jalapenos cost extra. Pair the platter with a pint, and you’re set for the night. Service is awesome.

Let me start by saying a vegan, gluten-free resto CAN make the best nachos in town. This 100 per cent vegan, gluten-free, peanut-free restaurant packs a serious flavour punch in the menu which “ain’t your mama’s rabbit food!” and is comprised of mains like sandwiches, bowls, burgers and salads. But back to the nachos, or Munchos, as they’re called. Tortilla chips are slathered in black beans, red and green onions, dairy-free cheese, cashew queso, smoked tofu, tempeh bac’un, and a tangy BBQ sauce. It’s an unbelievable party in your mouth — so much so, I don’t even notice there’s meat missing. Seriously — carnivores sampled this dish with me. For the occasional treat or cheat day, be sure to try their baked goods and milkshakes (we love the Amaretto flavour because alcohol). The resto, in a plaza on Neyagawa Blvd., is a happy place.

This spacious family-friendly restaurant on Dundas St. offers up a long list of Italian comfort food and features a truly unique item on its menu: Pasta Fritti, or an Italian version of nachos. Pasta chips, which resemble wontons, are made in-house. They’re buried in Italian sausage (I just wish it was spicy), green peppers, alfredo, tomatoes, red onions, black olives, green onions, mozzarella, sour cream, and marinara. One bite in and you won’t want to share. I said I’d have a few and wound up with a legit stomach ache. Worth it! If you haven’t been, trek to north Oakville and try the best nachos in town!
