Navigating your way through Hamilton and Burlington will get a little trickier in the weeks ahead.

Construction work on both the Burlington Skyway and Eastport Dr. over the Canal Lift Bridge will see significant lane closures for lengthy periods.

On the Skyway, All Niagara-bound lanes on the bridge will close every Friday night in July for road work construction. The work will take place starting tonight (July 7) and continue on July 14, 21 and 28.

The QEW anes will begin shutting down at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and then re-open at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Meanwhile, the continuing overhaul of the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge will lead to slowdowns through the area on Eastport Dr. until early next year.

During the construction work, three of the four lanes will be closed. The one remaining lane will open for alternating traffic with signalers or traffic lights.

The bridge will remain open for cyclists and pedestrians during this period and marine traffic will not be affected, according to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).

The lift bridge lane closures have been pushed back to July 6 when the work is expected to begin that will continue until January 2024.
