Traffic through Hamilton, Oakville and Mississauga expected to be busy as carnival returns to Toronto

Travel along the lakeshore will be busier than usual this long weekend as the Toronto Caribbean Carnival returns.

Back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the carnival runs from July 28 to 31. It is expected to be bigger than ever now that in-person celebrations have resumed.

‘On De Road Again’ is the official slogan for this year’s event, and with thousands of people expected to attend this year, traffic on the roads will be jammed.

The event’s biggest celebration is the Grande Parade happening on Saturday (July 30) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting from Exhibition Place. The parade will head to Stanley Barracks, moving west towards Lake Shore Boulevard West and Dowling Avenue. Then loop back around on Lake Shore and end at Newfoundland Rd.

Toronto is closing multiple roads for the event.

But Metrolinx has $10 weekend day passes and $15 weekend passes to get people to the action at the Exhibition. Passes must be purchased online, in advance.

Also, Metrolinx added special Kitchener Line train service on Saturday to get to the Grand Parade.

People travelling on the Stouffville line and GO Bus Routes 16, 21 and 31 should note service adjustments that will affect them on Saturday.
