Two Oakville students elected to Halton public school board

A pair of high school students have been elected by their peers to serve on the Halton District School Board.

Kaitlyn Hou, of Abbey Park High School and Charlie Ochu of Oakville Trafalgar High School. Both are in Grade 10.

They will serve on the board of trustees fo the 2024-2025 school year.

Voting took place online on Feb. 22 with approximately 5,400 students casting votes. Twenty-four candidates vied for the two positions.

Hou said she plans to advocate on behalf of students while Ochu said he is looking forward to working on behalf of the 67,000 students in the system.

“Student Trustees represent all students of the HDSB by sharing their voices at the board table, and collaborating with other Trustees on creating positive change for students in Halton,” commented Board Chair Amy Collard. “The trustees of the Halton District School Board deeply value student input as we strive to provide our students with the tools and experiences they need to accomplish their goals.”
