A highly-anticipated restaurant is officially serving up yummy plant-based eats in Oakville.

There’s everything from oh-so-trendy jackfruit to salads to grilled ‘fauxmage’ to chili cheeze dogs.

Burger patties – four types, to be exact – are made with ingredients such as mushrooms, brown rice, chick peas, black beans, lentils, and oats.

This hot-yet-casual dining experience just opened on March 9 … it’s creative and fun, much like a very nearby competitor.

It started in Winnipeg before making its way to the west Greater Toronto Area (first in Burlington — Hamilton’s Ottawa St. location recently opened, too).

Boon Burger Cafe – which proves you don’t necessarily need meat to create a phenomenally satisfying meal – now has a location in the Fortino’s plaza at Dundas St. and Neyagawa Blvd.

That’s in Vegebitez territory — this means the ever-popular vegan movement is only going to gain traction in town.

Boon Burger currently has a downtown Burlington location, where their Cowboy burger is the top seller. Dude, it’s beyond delicious.
Made from scratch, burgers are handmade, grilled, baked, and served on a whole wheat bun.
Back in O-Town, we’re told some of the most popular items include the Jamaican Me Crazy burger (with a grilled black bean patty, smoky jerk, coleslaw, pulled jackfruit, coleslaw, red onion and bermuda sauce) and the Pulled Jackfruit Poutine — fries are baked and topped with yams and sprinked with sesame seeds.
The Greek Almighty is also ordered quite often.
If you’re unfamiliar with Asian food, jackfruit is a nutrient-dense miracle food of sortstraced back to India.
It also makes a perfect stand-in for pork (especially for the vegans in your life and those who choose to go plant-based from time to time).
You can shred it and douse it in BBQ sauce … the sandwich and poutine are tasty and quite filling (fries have sesame seeds on top).
New items have recently been introduced to the menu, including a round – not square – bun, poutine, and pizza, or ‘peaceza.’ Flavours are changed regularly – -this one’s called ‘Animal Lover,’ topped with fake bacon bits.
This Canadian chain, or “world’s first vegan burger cafe,” has mastered selling plant-based junk food for the masses.
Hot sauce and other (less important) condiments are already on the table, surrounded by a massive roll of brown paper towels.
To wash it all down, there’s oodles of kombucha.
Full of farm animals, the environment is quirky; friendly staff wear black T-shirts reading ‘boonivore’ on the back.
Boon Burger has also scored bragging rights for Novemburger — that’s an annual burger festival which raises money for the United Way of Halton & Hamilton.
It’s time to get your eat on, Oakville.
