The Hamilton motorcyclist who was killed in a five-vehicle crash on the Burlington Skyway has been identified by provincial police.

Barbara Lethbridge, 51, was struck on Sept. 25 while riding a Harley Davidson.

The crash took place just before 6 a.m. on the “down-side of the Burlington Skyway coming through Hamilton over the harbour,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, involving two passenger vehicles, a minivan, and a pickup truck.

“Traffic was beginning to slow down” heading eastbound and there was some contact between the motorcycle and one of the cars, said Schmidt “and then it precipitated into a mutli-vehicle chain reaction event where the motorcyclist was struck significantly, sustaining fatal injuries.”

Motorcycle deaths are at a 10-year high, says Schmidt, adding 37 motorcyclists have been killed this year.

Eastbound lanes were closed for six hours for the investigation.
