A Ghost Bike Memorial Ride will be held this Victoria Day in Oakville in memory of a male cyclist who lost his life earlier this week.

A posting on tumblr and FACEBOOK by Joey Schwartz and Respect for Cyclists called for local riders join them in paying tribute to the man on Monday (May 20) who lost his life after a cycling accident this past Monday evening (May 13).

Halton Regional Police found the male on the side of the road on Eighth Line, south of Upper Middle Road. He was rushed to the hospital where he would succumb to his injuries.

“He was the seventh cycling death in the GTHA this year, and the second in two years to die in that general intersection in Oakville,” the tumblr post stated.

Riders are expected to meet in the north parking lot of the Oakville GO Station at 1 p.m. before departing on approximately five-kilometre ride to the crash site.

“We will install a Ghost Bike there and have a moment of silence,” added the post.

Riders will then head back to the Go Station.
