It was supposed to offer a spectacular view of Lake Ontario in downtown Oakville but residents and visitors won’t be dining at a pop-up waterfront restaurant this summer.

The Town didn’t receive any proposals in response to the request for proposal and won’t be proceeding with the pilot project this summer, spokesperson Gisele Shaw confirmed.

A pop-up was suggested at the top of the hill at Tannery Park, right on Lake Ontario for a unique dining experience.

The pilot project outlined a food service operating for a minimum of 10 days – starting this week – for a maximum of six weeks, until Labour Day.

There’s currently no place in the downtown core to have a drink or appetizers by the water and It’s the most obvious option missing, residents have told the Town.

The presence of a restaurant or cafe by Lake Ontario was expected to add vibrancy and help revitalize the area.

But Oakville isn’t saying goodbye to the idea forever.

“Staff will be exploring this opportunity again next year,” said Shaw.

What type of food options would you like to see by the water in downtown Oakville?
