Burlington, Milton, and Oakville residents could be eligible for the program that removes windrows (snow left at the end of driveways after the snowplow passes).


Burlington

This program is limited to the first 150 registrants. The in-person registration period is from Oct. 1 to Nov. 8 at the Burlington Seniors Centre, 2285 New Street, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

How the program works:

  • Windrow clearing contractors are dispatched after the completion of all roadway plowing
  • Residents can expect windrows to be cleared within 40-hours after the snow stops and within 16-hours of the completion of all road plowing
  • Plowing services will run from Nov. 15 to March 31
  • This service does not include windrows left by sidewalk plows
  • The program is open to residents living south of Dundas Street and within the Alton community only

What to bring with you when you register:

  • Proof of disability must be shown, such as a Taxable Benefit Slip, Parking Placard or a doctor’s note declaring the registrant unfit for windrow shoveling. A doctor’s note is needed every three years. 
  •  non-refundable fee of $54.88 for the entire season must be paid in cash, by cheque, debit card, or major credit card when registering. This fee applies to each driveway entrance.

Milton

The Town of Milton is inviting seniors (65 years+) and persons with disabilities living in Milton to register for the Windrow Removal Program, which runs from Dec 1, 2019 to March 31, for a cost of $63.

The service begins when the total accumulation of snow on the roadway exceeds 10 cm (4 inches) and 24 hours after the Town has completed the plowing of all roads.

Eligible residents must register in person on Oct 25 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre, 500 Childs Drive. A maximum of 75 spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrants must provide identification with their address and age, and must sign a declaration that no able-bodied person under the age of 65 is living at the residence. Persons with disabilities need to provide a doctor’s note.

Transportation to the Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre is available with Milton Transit on Route 5 Yates as well as for anyone registered for Milton access+ services; regular fares apply. For information about Milton Transit, call 905-864-4141 or visit www.miltontransit.ca.

Oakville

The in-person registration period is from Oct. 1 to Nov. 2. New applications must be processed in person at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road with proof of age or medical condition.

ServiceOakville is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants may pay by cash, cheque, debit or credit. There is a user-fee of $104.05 ($92.08+HST).

To be considered eligible, residents must be 65 years of age or older (proof of age is required), or a person with a physical disability or medical condition (a doctor’s note or disability parking permit is required). Registrant will also need to sign a declaration stating that no able-bodied person under the age of 65 is living at their residence.

The service is provided after a snowfall exceeds 7.5 cm (3 inches) when residential roads are plowed. Windrows are removed only once per winter event. The service does not clear any other areas of the driveway or sidewalk.
