A Burlington man has been arrested after reports of an attempted robbery at a local retailer.

Last Friday evening, July 15, around 10 p.m., a man was reported trying to steal a scooter and sporting goods from the Canadian Tire at 777 Guelph Line.

When he faced locked doors trying to make his escape, he smashed his cart against the doors in an attempt to flee. When that proved unsuccessful, he pulled out a Taser. Store security was able to get him under control and called Halton police.

Sheldon Funston, 26, of Burlington, has been charged with robbery, mischief under $5,000, three counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and two counts of failing to comply with probation.

He was held for a bail hearing.
