York University and the University of Toronto (U of T) have announced all classes will be held online as opposed to in lecture halls to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Effective March 16, students will not be able to attend classes in person. However, both Universities will be offering courses online, to prevent a complete disruption of the semester.

Additionally, York has cancelled all non-essential events that aren’t required as part of an academic program.

Further, York’s gym–Tait McKenzie Centre–will also be closed until April 30.

However, U of T has announced libraries, residences, food services, health and wellness centres, athletics and recreation facilities, and other public spaces on all three campuses will remain open.

While Ryerson has yet to announce they are following suit, many students are urging the administration to do the same, and cancel in-person classes.
