Zellers to expand its floor space inside some new Canadian locations

Zellers is enjoying its return to Canada and while “the lowest price is (still) the law,” the popular outlets now housed inside Hudson’s Bay stores may be making its footprint a little larger.
Following the success of the store’s e-commerce site and 25 shop-in-shop locations nationally within Hudson’s Bay stores in March, the company intends to open larger footprint stores in some or all of those same locations by adding a series of pop-up boutiques.
The movement will begin at the Hudson’s Bay’s flagship in Toronto, the Queen Street store in June, with up to an additional 20 pop-ups expected to open in August.
In the GTA and Golden Horseshoe area, there are Zellers locations in Mississauga, Burlington and St. Catharines but there’s no word on whether these three will be part of the interior pop-up expansions.
The Mississauga Zellers will be inside the Hudson’s Bay in Erin Mills Town Centre, 5100 Erin Mills Pkwy. The Burlington location is at Burlington Mall, 777 Guelph Line and the St. Catharines location is in the Pen Centre Shopping Plaza, 221 Glendale Ave.
“We have always said that we will listen to Canadians, and they will tell us where to grow,” said Sophia Hwang-Judiesch, the president of Hudson’s Bay, in a news release. “With these pop-ups, our expansion strategy will be fueled by the interest and feedback from our customers across the country.”

Zellers stores are 8,000 to 10,000 square feet. The updated pop-up size has not been determined just yet, and may differ by location.
