5 million free transfers made through Ontario’s One Fare Program

Since it was launched in February, riders have made more than five million transfers between municipal transit systems and GO Transit in Ontario.
The Ontario government launched the One Fare Program on Feb. 26. The plan allows transit users to save money by paying only once as they can transfer for free between MiWay, Brampton Transit, TTC, Durham Region Transit, York Region Transit and GO Transit.
Metrolinx announced today that as of April 19, transit customers have made over five million transfers between participating transit systems through Ontario’s One Fare Program.
Transit riders could save up to $1,600 annually if they commute five days a week.
“This exciting milestone is a testament to the program’s success in making transfers between local transit systems more affordable and accessible for commuters across the region,” Metrolinx noted.
Commuters can also leverage various payment options to pay for their fare, including PRESTO cards, credit/debit cards, or PRESTO in Google Wallet, to use the One Fare Program.

Riders tap onto a participating transit agency with a PRESTO card, credit or debit, or PRESTO in Google Wallet.
A discount is calculated and applied to your PRESTO card or payment with a credit or debit card.
Transfers are valid for two hours if you start your trip on local transit and within three hours of the start of your GO trip.
For TTC-GO trips, the TTC component of the trip will be free, regardless of travel direction.
For TTC-905 trips, the second portion of the trip will be free.
