It’s no secret that it’s been difficult–if not impossible–for tenants across Canada to find affordable rental homes and Burlington is no different. 

According to the latest data from Rentals.ca, Burlington is one of the most expensive cities for renters in Canada, with the average rental rate for a one-bedroom sitting at $2,217, up 5.7 per cent from last year. A two-bedroom apartment in the city costs an average of $2,641, up 3.2 per cent from last year.

But while rates are high, some homes can be rented for less than $2,000 a month. Here’s a look at some more affordable homes, courtesy of rentals.ca:


1050 Highland Street: $1,899

This one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment spans over 500 square feet and comes in at $1,899 a month. The building, which was constructed in 1968, is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood and backs onto Leighland Park. The building also offers on-site parking and laundry facilities.


Hedley Road – $1,750

This listing advertises occupancy in a house that’s currently home to one other tenant. The lease begins in February 2024 and is restricted to one tenant only. According to the listing, the tenant will have access to the upper floor of the home and a parking spot. The kitchen is shared and restricted to “light cooking.” 


551 Maple Avenue: $1,500

This large unit boasts two bedrooms, one bathroom and over 1,000 square feet of space. Located in the new Strata building on Maple Avenue, the unit is close to Spencer Smith Park and features hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, an upgraded kitchen, and a spacious private locker room. 


644 Surrey Lane: $920

A single tenant on a budget can rent a room in a home in Burlington’s La Salle neighbourhood for less than $1,000. The room is private and street parking is available. According to the listing, the new tenant will be the third person living in the home. The kitchen, washroom, laundry room and yard are shared. 


667 Wickens Avenue: $1,900

This Aldershot basement suite offers one bedroom, one bathroom and over 800 square feet of space. According to the listing, the newly renovated suite is legal (and also has a separate entrance) and comes with one parking space and a private laundry room. The listings ask tenants to refrain from smoking and keeping pets.
