Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for southern Ontario tonight, with as much as 45 mm of rain, 80 km/hr wind gusts and a risk of thunderstorms sweeping the region from Hamilton through to Oshawa.

The “significant rainfall” will continue through Friday morning, where it will taper to showers.

Northwesterly winds will intensify in behind the system Friday night with gusts up to 80 km/h and heavy downpours that can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

For information concerning flooding consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry office.
