A favourite spot for family outings in Milton now open for the season

One of Milton’s favourite places for summer outings has opened its doors for the season.
Springridge Farm has become a popular place for excursions, whether it’s to visit the barn market, bakery or fun farmyard.
According to the farm’s website, the Hughes family has been fruit farming for six generations, more than 100 years.
Farmer John’s parents, Leslie and Isobel Jane Hughes, purchased this farm in 1960 when their farm in Mississauga was sold for development.
When the Hughes family moved to Springridge they grew 50 acres of sour cherries. The fruit was grown, picked, and shipped to canneries to be sold as frozen pitted cherries.
Eventually, when that business stopped showing a profit in the mid-1970s, the farm was opened to the public for them to pick-their-own cherries.

People came and picked, but mostly wanted to see inside the 19th century bank barn. Since then, Springridge has listened to what customers are interested in experiencing and have gradually added to the business.
The farm remains a family business and has since expanded to include a bakery that is well known across the region. All the pies and tarts are made by hand and what’s available changes based on what’s in season.
The fun farmyard is a favourite of the younger visitors to Springridge and includes things like:

- tube slides
- singing tractor
- crank steam tractor
- giant sandbox
- straw play
- goat mountain
- escarpment lookout
- farm animals
- antique tractors
- singing chicken show
- pedal tractors and farm hoppers
- tractor drawn wagon ride
- Adirondack chairs for parents to sit and relax while children are playing
The barn market has become well known as a place to pick up fun, unique items that make great gifts.
Springridge is open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Christmas and seasonal passes are available if you intended to visit a lot.
