When a popular restaurant closed in Georgetown last summer, the owners hinted they were not quite done.

At the time, Yong’s had been a downtown mainstay serving Chinese food since 1973.

Now, after six months, Yong’s has returned, at a new location but with the same menu that has pleased customers for five decades.

“Yes, we are back,” one of the owners told inhalton.com. “We missed our time away and are looking forward to serving our customers once again. They have been very loyal to us and we appreciate that.”

The restaurant specializes in Cantonese, Szechuan and Thai cuisine.

A message posted on the restaurant’s website says the new location at 118 Guelph St. S. opened yesterday, Jan. 29.

“We are filled with immense gratitude for your patience, understanding, and unwavering support during our transition to a new location,” the message reads. “This journey has been one of anticipation, hard work, and meticulous preparation, and we are thrilled to welcome back our valued patrons to our brand-new home.”

The owner said they were forced to leave downtown because of rent increases, but always anticipated re-opening.

She said customers will notice a few changes but they have tried to recreate the same atmosphere, one that existed pre-pandemic.

“During the pandemic, we had to close the dining room, but we have space for diners now,” she said adding that the buffet is not available at this time.

And, while there had been much speculation in the community about whether a new ownership would take over, she stressed that the same group is still in charge and will be operating the restaurant.

She added that they are getting used to the new location but said they are available for takeout and delivery.

The website notes that food can be ordered through the store at 905-877-5106 or by Uber Eats and DoorDash.

“Your patience and loyalty have been the driving force behind our commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience,” the website also notes. “We understand that the wait might have felt long, but we assure you that every moment has been dedicated to ensuring that your return to our establishment is met with a renewed sense of warmth and culinary excellence.”
