It’s TIFF season but film lovers don’t have to head east to enjoy entertainment on the big screen.

An international film series kicks off its fall season right here in Oakville on Sept. 10.

Monday Night at the Movies offers a taste of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the west end.

It’s taking place at the Winston Churchill Cineplex (in the Oakville Entertainment Centrum at 2081 Winston Park Dr).

The first flick is a hilarious and heart-warming British film, Finding Your Feet, featuring Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie, Timothy Spall, and Joanna Lumley.

Through its partnership with TIFF, Monday Night at the Movies provides movie lovers with unique access to the festival’s recent releases, featuring some of the best independent films from around the world, that otherwise don’t have wide distribution.

“We’re an independent, volunteer-run group that works with TIFF to bring great movies from Canada, Great Britain and all around the world to our local community, and at an affordable price,” said Monday Night at the Movies chairperson Clare Henderson.

“Since our first season in 2006, our audiences have shown their appreciation for this one-of-a-kind movie experience by filling the theatre again and again, by their return visits and positive comments.”

Films screen at the Winston Churchill Cineplex cinema at 7:30 p.m., generally every other Monday from September to April.

Tickets are $10 each – cash only –  and can be purchased at the Monday Night at the Movies’ table in the lobby of the theatre beginning at 6:45 p.m. prior to each show.

Each feature film starts with an animation short showcasing the talents of the graduating class from Sheridan College’s Computer Animation programs.

Monday Night at the Movies is a not-for-profit organization. Any surplus funds at the end of the programming year are donated to a variety of local charities and community groups, including scholarships and bursaries for
Sheridan students.

Coming dates and film titles will be posted on the website. You can e-mail [email protected] to receive movie alerts.
