Four masked men used hammers to smash display cases and steal jewellery from a Burlington mall.

Reports indicate the crew rushed into the Birks Jewellery store at Mapleview Shopping Centre just before closing time at 6 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 21) and started smashing the cases.

They then gathered up the valuables and quickly left the scene.

The value of the goods taken has not been released. There were no injuries but extensive damage was done to the store.

The four men are described as wearing black balaclavas, gloves and dark clothing.

Several similar incidents have occurred across Southern Ontario in recent weeks.
