If you have never enjoyed comedy in a small club, well, then the joke is on you.

So say the organizers of the Burlington Downtown Comedy Festival which returns this week for the eighth time.

Phil LeConte, the executive producer of the shows, says if you love comedy there is nothing quite like sharing the experience in a small, intimate setting where the comedian can make you feel part of the show.

“When you are in a small setting it’s like sharing an inside joke with your friends, you become a part of it and the laughter can become contagious,” he said. “You are going to hear the comic say things in a different way — not like it is on TV — it’s more spontaneous and just more funny.”

LeConte said the festival went on hiatus during the pandemic but has roared back and is now more popular than ever which has led to an increase in the number of shows and venues this year.

The festival runs April 25-27 with shows at the Pearle Hotel, The Block Co., 400 Brant Kitchen and Bar, and Paradiso Restaurant.

This year the festival will feature comedians from across Canada and the U.S.

Comedians scheduled to perform include Pete Zedlacher, Tamara Shevon, Dena Jackson, Steve Goodtime, Patrick Haye, Jen Grant and Magic Brian.

“People will recognize the names, they perform at all the major festivals and on TV, we have a great line-up this year,” LeConte said.

In the past, the festival has sold out and LeConte said he expects the same this year with only “a handful of tickets” available for each show.

A complete show schedule and ticket availability can be found here.
