Service changes to MiWay in Mississauga.

Public transit riders in Mississauga will notice some changes to bus service starting Monday.

Officials at MiWay, the city’s transit provider, said they’re introducing a number of changes intended to improve service for passengers, whether daily riders or occasional users of the transit service.

For one, additional service on weekends is among changes that will take effect on April 29 or shortly thereafter. A series of other schedule adjustments and enhancements is also expected to improve service, MiWay officials said.

On Saturdays and Sundays moving forward, a pair of busy routes, 61 Mavis and 66 McLaughlin, will see more frequent buses on weekends.

The increased service comes in response to ridership growth to “provide more capacity where and when customers need it,” MiWay officials said in a recent post to social media.

Route 61 Mavis will see buses run every 16 to 18 minutes on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and every 18 minutes on Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Route 66 McLaughlin, meanwhile, will see buses operate every 15 minutes on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and every 15 to 17 minutes on Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Other service changes include the moving of the Route 20 Rathburn stop at the City Centre Transit Terminal from Platform O to Platform K and the seasonal reduction of post-secondary service as colleges and universities move from the busier winter study session into the slower summer season.

MiWay said the moving of the Route 20 Rathburn bus stop will allow for easier transfers for customers, particularly those transferring to Route 9 Rathburn-Thomas at Platform J.

And due to lower customer demand during the summer academic term, officials note the following post-secondary service reductions will be in effect:

  • 44 Mississauga Road: weekday service frequency will be reduced to 24 minutes from 18 minutes
  • 101A Dundas Express: will not service the University of Toronto Mississauga campus during the summer academic term; customers can instead take routes 101 Dundas Express, 1C Dundas-Collegeway, 44 Mississauga Road or 110 University Express to/from UTM
  • 107 Malton Express: will not service Humber College (North Campus) in Toronto during the summer academic term; customers can instead take Route 22 Finch
  • 110 University Express: weekday service frequency will be reduced to 20 minutes from 12 minutes

Regular post-secondary service will resume on Sept. 3, MiWay officials said.

In addition, according to MiWay, the following routes will see increased service as of April 29 due to growth in demand:

  • 6 Credit Woodlands: new weekday eastbound trip at 2:46 p.m. from Dundas Street at Erindale Station Road
  • 8 Cawthra: new weekday northbound trip at 2:57 p.m. from Cawthra Road and Atwater Avenue
  • 13 Glen Erin: new weekday southbound trip at 7:32 a.m. from Meadowvale Town Centre Transit Terminal
  • 45 Winston Churchill: new weekday northbound trip at 4:43 p.m. from Clarkson GO Station

Also, schedule adjustments will be made on a number of routes to improve service reliability as traffic and ridership patterns continue to evolve throughout the city, officials said.

Those routes are:

  • 4 Sherway Gardens (Saturday and Sunday)
  • 10 Bristol-Britannia (weekdays)
  • 13 Glen Erin (weekdays, Saturday and Sunday)
  • 16 Malton (Saturday and Sunday)
  • 16A Malton (Saturday and Sunday)
