Collision with natural gas meter closes Oakville intersection; evacuation not required

A collision with a natural gas meter in Oakville has closed a busy intersection and brought in a heavy fire and police presence as workers try and fix the problem.

Halton Police said the meter was struck as a result of a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Lakeshore Rd. E and Thomas Street.

Union Gas is on the scene and evacuation not required as the area is contained. Police are asking residents and commuters to and avoid the area.
